Thank GOD! It’s finally over. The month of “a post a day” has come to a close and I am deliriously happy.
The (self-inflicted) goal of posting once a day had become a HUGE stressor in my life and I’m now simply filled with relief. Although I did resort to using some drafts I had written at other points as “filler,” the pressure to produce posts that actually related to my current life was constant. I’m glad that I never had to resort to the prompts provided through NaBloPoMo and had plenty of other things to talk about that were, at least tangentially, related to the list.
The only positive benefit I could see is that the list, and by default, the urgency of accomplishing and experiencing new things, was ever-present in my mind. However, the time it took to manage the blog on a daily basis took up much more of my time, therefore cutting into time better spent on reading books I’ve never read, seeing movies I’ve never seen, etc. I don’t think actually posting made me accomplish more than I normally would. I would still work on the beer list and do the recipes a week anyway. Usually I then just Tweet about it, which, after all, when you are talking about drinking a beer or cooking, is really all that’s necessary.
So I’m done. I tried it and decided it wasn’t for me. I’m really excited to say that I’ll talk to you on Thursday.
