Goals for 2014

It’s the ISTJ in me that loves this part of the year. I really enjoy making my plans for the year and then having so much to look forward to. It means that even after you’ve done one thing you looked forward to, there’s always something else right after it.

#2 Swim with Whales: I went January 4 and actually saw whales! A lot, in fact. Breaching and waving their fins and everything! Hopefully I’ll post individually about this soon but as for this goal, it is DONE!

#8 Sell a piece of art (and realize my childhood dream, which is #28 on the 40/40 list): Continue on my current path of creating and carving out time for creating. See where it goes…

#46 Scuba Diving: Dive at least once in the Rock Quarry.

#52 Read the Greatest Books Ever Written (#7 on the 40/40 list): Read 2 on the list. Go to one Shakespeare play.

#65  Shout ‘Drinks Are on Me!’ in a Pub or Bar (#17 on the 40/40 list): Actually do this this year.

#67 Visit…the Grand Canyon (#15 on the 40/40 list): I actually have booked a cabin at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and will be hiking down into the Canyon. It’s this whole big deal that you have to book a year in advance and it was this whole big production to do it but I’m so super stoked!

#84 Learn to Ski (#32 on the 40/40 list): I have plans to go for my third time the end of February.

Goals from my 40 Before I’m 40 List:

(I really need to update the 40 before I’m 40 list. There are a LOT of things on there I don’t even want to do anymore!)

#1 Be Able to Do a Pull Up: Small steps. Continue to work at this.

#11 Learn to Rock Climb: I have plans to climb Pilot Mountain again in March.

#14 Stay in an Ice Hotel: I’m going with my friend Jessica in February to stay at the Hotel de Glace. I can’t believe it!

#18 Watch the  Top 250 IMDB List/Watch All of the Oscar Best Picture Winners: Try for 20 this year.

#35 Visit all of the NC Breweries: NC now has 84 breweries. It only had 49 when I started this in the Fall of 2011. Thus far I have visited 30, but a lot of those are new and weren’t on that original list. For this year, I plan to visit 7.

#36 Learn How to Ballroom Dance: I’m thinking of changing this goal to become a belly dancer. I did a good bit of it in 2013 and plan to continue. My eventual goal is to become one of the “veteran” girls that do the more difficult moves during the recitals.

From the Sports List:

#18 Attend a rugby game (and learn the rules)

#19 Attend a cricket game (and learn the rules)

Other things I’ve got planned (and I’m sure more things will be added to the list!)

  • Take a Krav Maga class.
  • Take a knife throwing class.
  • Take an aerial silks class.
  • Go Stand Up Paddleboarding.
  • I like that I keep doing fun runs. I’ve done the Krispy Kreme Challenge, the Electric Run, the Warrior Dash, and the Color Run. This year I’m doing the Cupid’s Undie Run.
  • Have high tea.
  • Continue to unburden my life with STUFF.
  • Continue to brew beer.
  • Watch people BASE jump at Bridge Day.

So…I’m really excited for this year. I think it’s going to be very adventurous with hikes in the Grand Canyon and visits to an Ice hotel. It’s off to a positive start with successful whale watching so I hope the trend continues!

About Jessica

Mild mannered marketing drone by day. Bucket list adventurer by late afternoon. Having first drafted a list in high school, Jessica's list of things to do before she dies has slowly taken over her life and consumes her thoughts. Because of the list, she has traveled to Mordor, plummeted towards the Earth's surface from 13,000 feet up, cavorted with whale sharks in open water, skinny dipped herself into the Guinness World Book, and cursed the day she was born during the last miles of a Marathon. It's safe to say that if Jessica is doing it, it's on the list.

  1. Wow! What incredible goals you have for 2014. I hope you accomplish them all & I can’t wait to read about it. I love your spirit. You’re inspiring me to make my own 2014 List :)

PS… Love the Myers Briggs reference. :)
