Weird Ways People Have Found My Blog

Wordle: 101 Things to Do Before You Die
I’m always curious to see what searches led people to my blog, and usually its the obvious ones: “101 things to do before you die” or searches for places I’ve been or things I’ve done like “New Zealand” or “Smuggle Alcohol Onto Cruise Ships.”   The top searches that bring people to my site are:

  • Piercings/Body Piercings/Piercings for Girls/Back Piercings (9,894)
  • 101 Things to Do Before You Die/Things to Do Before You Die (2,482)
  • Police Line Up (177)
  • 100 Things to Do Before You Graduate College (272)
  • Artist Palette (254)
  • White Water Rafting (87)
  • Postsecret Postcards (72)

Apparently I need to write more posts about piercings.  And although these are the overall top ways people have found my blog since the beginning, typically nowadays the way people find me is searching for “skinny dipping,” since that’s the number one search since about July.

It’s the strange searches that make me laugh and think “Why did someone even SEARCH for this!?”  Here’s a list of some of my favorites:

  • Fat Feet
  • How often should I eat Krispy Kreme
  • Jess is drunk and has water in her ear
  • Did my brother eat a koeksister?
  • Beach Fence
  • Did you die?  Did you see swordfish?
  • Tickled Underwater
  • Castles in the United States
  • Cooked Feet
  • Baseball Stadium Spectators
  • Orange Running Skirt
  • Hate Bikram
  • Dogging South Africa
  • Mississippi Pothole

How do people find your blog?  What’s the craziest thing people have searched for to find your blog?

About Jessica

Mild mannered marketing drone by day. Bucket list adventurer by late afternoon. Having first drafted a list in high school, Jessica's list of things to do before she dies has slowly taken over her life and consumes her thoughts. Because of the list, she has traveled to Mordor, plummeted towards the Earth's surface from 13,000 feet up, cavorted with whale sharks in open water, skinny dipped herself into the Guinness World Book, and cursed the day she was born during the last miles of a Marathon. It's safe to say that if Jessica is doing it, it's on the list.

  1. For the majority of them, people find my blog via Google….but you’re be happy because 5% of them come in my blog via your blog !

My best and strangest keyword is :
    - “Tintin auf italienisch” (Tintin in italian)

    • Hey, that’s good that I’m able to refer some people to you! I think my biggest referer is either Miranda or Richard Horne’s website. And by the way, you are my 500th comment! Yay!

  2. Woo hoo! Go me for referring!!

Most of mine are pretty normal. But here’s some good ones:

    things to do with glitter
    swiffer sweeper
    how to strengthen my penny

  3. PS – You’re one of my best referrers too!

  4. I get about a third of my traffic through search engines, but most of the searches I can explain in one way or another. However, there is one weird one I can’t explain, “positano khao yai”. Why it led the person to my site, I’ll never know. Others I’ve had are “the knighthood of the brewers’ mash staff” and “san pablo peru leper colony”. Honestly, I know what post they’re going to, but the fact that a search engine thought I was a good place to get info on them is funny.

    • Yeah, for the most part I know what post led them to my blog, but still strange that someone would search for ‘fat feet’ or ‘tickling underwater.’ And that I was high enough on the search list for them to click on me.

  5. This post cracks me up because I too am a bucket list blogger and I too love to see what searches people do to find me. My favorites so far have been ‘italian torpedo’ & ‘nude girl swim with dolphin’ (I did NOT swim on a dolphin nude!).

    Best wishes on your adventures!!
