Luckily I don’t need to know another lanugauge for New Zealand, although the official language is Maori. For this thing to do on the 101 Things to Do Before You Die list, I learned how to say Hello, Goodbye, Please, Thank You, Order a Beer, Insult, and Swear in three different languages. I chose to learn Spanish, Italian, and German:
| Phrase | Spanish | Italian | German |
| Hello! | Hola! | Ciao! | Hallo! |
| Good-Bye! | Adios! | Ciao! | Auf Wiedersehen! |
| Please | Por Favor | Per Favore | Bitte |
| Thank you | Gracias | Grazie | Danke |
| I would like a beer | Quiero una cerveza. | Voglio una birra | Ich will ein bier |
| Your mother wears Army boots! | Su mama lleva sus botas! | Tua madre indossa stivali escercito! | Ihre Mutter tragt Armee stiefel! |
| S**t! | Mierde! | Merda! | Scheisse! |
The insult isn’t really that good; insults tend to not translate very well, so I welcome the addition of good Spanish, Italian, and German insults, and feel free to tell me if I’m wrong with any of the above.

Haha – Nice! I should really draw this one up and get it done. It’d be a nice one to get off the list.
Yeah, this one of those ones that you can do one afternoon. Like starting a fire with a magnifying glass or confessing your sins. I need to stop being so lazy with those!
I like the picture.
In Italian, you say “Voglio una birra”. Penso que “voglia” è la forma di volere al congiuntivo.
Ta mère en rangers.
Thanks Chris. I corrected it!
I like the insult! Too funny! I’m trying to save some of the easier ones to keep me motivated in between all of the difficult things.
That’s smart Gina. I do the easy things because I like checking things off my list, although I may be discouraged later on when I have no more easy things to do!
I just came across your blog and I think it’s great
Can’t wait to read more of you!
A small correction for the German translation:
It is “Stiefel” without the r
and Scheisse!
Thanks!
