Thing to Do #70: Invent a word that makes it into the Dictionary

This thing to do is one of those that is out of your control – you can only invent the word and then hopes it becomes popular enough to get into the dictionary.  No matter how much money you have, you can’t make this happen without luck.  That’s why I think I’m going to alter the judge of the success of this one…

Ever heard of words like Manscape or Bromance?  Well, they may not have a place in the Oxford Dictionary, but words like these can be found in Addictionary.  Addictionary is an interactive site where anyone can add words they have created, but then people can discuss them and vote on whether or not they like them.  The site itself is really entertaining and some people have really created some interesting words.  To have completed this Thing to Do, if a word that I have added becomes one of the most popular on Addictionary, then I’m successful.  Webster actually has what they call an Open Dictionary where you can actually add words, but its not as interactive or as fun as Addictionary.

The first word I submitted was Eurotica, noun, Porn that claims to not be porn because it has better scenery and a genuine plot.

About Jessica

Mild mannered marketing drone by day. Bucket list adventurer by late afternoon. Having first drafted a list in high school, Jessica's list of things to do before she dies has slowly taken over her life and consumes her thoughts. Because of the list, she has traveled to Mordor, plummeted towards the Earth's surface from 13,000 feet up, cavorted with whale sharks in open water, skinny dipped herself into the Guinness World Book, and cursed the day she was born during the last miles of a Marathon. It's safe to say that if Jessica is doing it, it's on the list.
