It’s time to come out of the closet. I’ve already mentioned that I grew up in a small, rural community in the South. My childhood included probably a lot of what you may think of when you think about the South, including our affinity for guns.
I’ve long joked that my father is on the FBI’s “Watch List” for arms stockpiling. The truth of it is that its simply in his blood. After retiring, my grandfather hosted a shooting range behind his house and crafted knives and rifles. My father, like many men from the South, grew up hunting and continues to enjoy it as a pastime (although now it may serve more as a social activity to catch up with old friends, rather than actually pursuing deer, ducks, rabbits, squirrel, doves, and fox). More so, he now enjoys collecting various firearms. He especially enjoys his Sharps rifle, casting his own bullets and all that is involved with muzzleloading.
I say all of that to say that going target shooting was probably accomplished by the time I was seven. I have shot both semi-automatic and automatic guns; I especially enjoyed shooting with tracers. When I was little, I really wanted night vision goggles. Interestingly, I’ve never shot clay pigeons, although Mama has and she’s a great shot! I’m thinking of adding that to my list…
Anyone else out there has gone target shooting? Wanted to but hasn’t? Is incredibly against owning guns? (I probably won’t get into an argument with you).
